Worked in IT for 26 years and used every single MacOS OSX version from the first release 20 years ago, till the last. So I've been using Windows and OSX extensively at work and home over those years. When it comes to OS consistency, reliability and privacy, Windows does not stand a chance at getting me back from MacOS. When I have a say in the matter, MacOS / IOS for me, Linux and the BSD's for my servers. I only use Windows when I have no choice.

I'm a developer and I don't like Apple (as a company). But I do use Mac OS and I agree with most points in this video. But when you mentioned XCode I got flabbergasted. It has been about 3 years since I was forced (apple) to use XCode, but I remember it as one of the most hated thing by me and fellow app developers. Tying to get something to fit in storyboard if it doesn't fit immediately, it is such a pain in the ass. There is no way to modify the code directly if the UI doesn't do the job. Especially compared to Android studio it always felt inferior. I could maybe understand listing it as positive point under exclusives, as it is the only way to build apps for the Apple eco system. But that could as well be a bad point about Apple. Funfact about bootcamp, I would love to use it, but in our company and others that I know, it is forbidden for security reasons. I think it's because Apple does not allow the windows partition on the harddisk to be encrypted? I don't actually know, it was not my decision. About apple trying to force their Browser down your throat, they actually do that. Sometimes when I have to open websites from Apple, they automatically open in Safari, even though it's not my default. The default Mail app is the only one that can react to the "mailto:" uris, unless you use some tool to "fix" that.

I have 3 laptops in this house. A 2008 Dell Studio XPS A 2015 HP EliteBook A 2015 MacBook Air The Dell was an absolute reliability bitch. I got through 3 chargers, performance was appalling at times, the battery failed completely, the hard drive failed... The HP is better. But the hard drive has failed completely. Not just partly failed like on the Dell, completely gone, won't turn on. Performance under pressure was embarrassing. The MBA...I've got a service recommended notice for the battery, but I've had that for 2 years without any issues. It doesn't hold a charge for more than about an hour now, but considering its age and usage, that's no big problem for me. Otherwise...it just works. And we're forgetting the best thing for me, briefly touched on in this video: Lifetime OS upgrades for FREE. That Dell was stuck with terrible OS because I was unwilling to spend an arm and a leg on Win10. Which I'm glad I didn't as it failed soon after. I've just upgraded to High Sierra on this MBA and it's so good. I would really recommend macs to everyone. Though I do miss some things about Windows, mainly gaming. So I will be getting a new PC at some point, but also a new Mac for productivity.

This is spot on. I use windows computers to, and they have other strong points. But on these 10 points, MacOS is just fantastic. Lot's of talking about prices in the comments. Don't forget that there is a well functioning 2nd-hand market for Macs. I have both sold and bought MacBooks 2nd-hand over the years. That's not the case for PCs. And to me that changes the discussion on price and price vs performance a lot.

1. What is the point comparing "Windows" with the mousepad on MacPro? It doesn't make any sense! 2. Why compare Windows with Mac and not Mac with Linux, considering the same origin(UNIX) and the fact Linux have many similar tools to Mac's? 3. Windows sucks in everything if compared with Mac or even Linux except in games. And would suck even in games considering the Proton project's evolution.

One problem I have with a Mac is the company. It is 50 50 weather they care about the customers and have you ever seen an official Mac iso? I don’t think you have. While Microsoft has released a bunch of isos and they actually care about the customers. One time in my recommendations I saw a video about Apple refusing to fix a MacBook.

Don't forget the fonts, dictionaries etc. that Apple bundles for free with macOS (and iOS/iPadOS for that matter). Not to forget all those APIs that Apple provides to apps so they can use the Keychain, a unified Font and Color Picker… All of that serves not only coherence across your apps, but also lets you have a consistent set of pickers (like font and color) where your favourites are the same, no matter which app you are using, and that makes the OS the true star of the show, letting 3rd party apps leverage that power. That is why my computer has to come with macOS. If it doesn't, it's ... well, not so interesting.

i have been trying for 5 years to get a macbook to boot into windows every time you would fail or just say there was a error with the storage and you can't run anything on mac boot camp sucks and does not work and takes to long and you can just use a text file to do a ppt file just make a new page and you saying "oh windows user you want to run a apple app well you can't" well i said for 1: what would i want to run that is on a macbook. and for 2: i said well if you want to run any other app that is not from apple well you can't and also if you want to play any games pretty much well you can't because most games are only for windows and some stuff for the game like a dlc or any other thing you can only get with windows most of everything that you can download is for windows and even if you find a game that is for windows and mac the graphics are not going to look as good as if you just had windows you can never run anything and winds was the first to be able to go back to a different version of a app and windows can make a backup an even better you can go back to a later date of windows if you have a error or if you have a virus on mac you have to wipe it and sometimes even get it repaired at apple mac sucks and i am happy that i am on windows

iMessage is only a thing in USA and maybe Canada, the rest of the world uses What'sApp, Facebook Messenger, Telegram or other messaging app and all of them have PC support in a way or another. This is a reason why you shouldn't put all your eggs in one basket

From developer's view: Windows 7 was the last consistent OS from Microsoft. But MS kept trying to monetize and control devs and devops. If MS wasn't so greedy we would've stuck and kept tooling Windows. Now, VS, Xamarin, surface, win10, hyper-v, wsl are all still garbage even if they're free. Apple on the other hand knows how to keep devs happy on OSX.

Unix nerds!!! I developed for unix and Windows for years, but I always used a macbook for my own machine. The macbook can also get around some of Microshaft's file system security when a virus has messed it up.

@Aleksandr Trohhatsov Sure. What sold me on the Macbook was my first in 2008 with the gesture pad. Without that, it wouldn't have been as useful. I did try going back to a PC laptop for a few months but I just couldn't get as much done. I just hope Apple doesn't ruin MacOS like they ruined IOS.

@John Best Don't laugh! The Macbook paid for itself. Had a client who was always getting crazy viruses. Several would change the ACLs on all the files such that he couldn't log in. Another Windows machine would honor the ACLs, but copying the file system through the Mac to a new hard drive was a quick and easy way to get rid of the problematic ACLs! In an all Windows environment, the Macbook saved my bacon many times. Besides, I may have paid a kidney for it, but at least it was still worth a few toes when I sold it and bought a new one! :P

I always wonder who are those developers who think mac os is needed for development and will make you a good performer, I've been using windows all my life and professionally for 2 years for my development work and did not find any issue that could hamper my development. Also, windows will always have alternative software if for some reason you don't want to use the mainstream.

It's a shame. 1. You can learn to install anything, don't be lazy. 2. For the price of any Mac, you can build a more powerful computer. 3. Powers trumps accessories. You can do more in a built computer, you have more software available for Windows than for Linux and Mac (assumption on user numbers). 4. For the price of competitive Mac, again you build more powerful machines but, at the same time makes the consideration of a Mac laptop only if it is a job requirement or something. Or if you're working to create Apple products software, but if it is the case then you wouldn't need the most expensive (more powerful) versions of MAC.

in the year I had my macbook pro, after paying for the ridiculous tax for apple care, the backlight broke. I still had to pay to fix it, so in total it was 1700 dollars for a broken backlight and pain. Will be buying a laptop soon, fuck mac.

I love my MacBook. It’s a mid 2015 with retina. I just had to get some repairs done on it recently (new fans, whole battery/keyboard/trackpad assembly entirely replaced) because my battery had degraded and actually expanded. Cost me about $300 at a repair center, and I spent another ~$300 installing a 2tb NVME SSD myself at home, and I’m entirely confident this thing will last me another 5+ years. This is one of the last MacBooks where you can actually replace components. The newer ones have everything built in to the base board. I’ll hang on to this thing until it becomes a pain to use it every day.

It was funny for me. All of my life I used windows and I was part of the anti-mac group for no other reason than that Macs were super expensive. I was fortunate that during my research as a physics student that I used a MacBook to run particle physics simulations. After a month I completely feel in love with the functionality and reliability that came with a Mac that a year later I coughed up 1000 bucks to get my own personal one. As someone who does use the higher level features for programming and science, I could never go back.

M1 are pretty reasonably priced now, especially the Air. Significantly faster than any windows laptop of the same price, in most things.
