the fan and the cpu heat sink don't have to be aligned directly... there is an input and output for air flow. kind like a vacuum and blower. the point is to exchange the air in the Macbook.

You keep complaining about the fan placement... but hey, it's an Apple product. I'm surprised they put a fan at all. You should have done a test of a MacBook air, without fan. I'm betting there is not real downside as it is so far away from the heat source that it probably makes not much difference from the get-go.

Nvidia & intel are the reason I hated my MacBook Pro & switch back to windows! I'm grateful to God to live & see this chip exist! This Apple M chips moments is actually as the moment as first iPhone released! I'm pretty sure not only me going to change to MacBook Pro later this year when MBP reveals the beast inside, most of the people are If the PC industry not going to cach the ARM PC version race! What is the use of multi thread test when M chips are fater than everyone?! The power of the current Apple M1 is not fully revealed because most of apps & AAA games don't support it! Just wait for it to be supported to be amazed!! I wish the success only to Apple ARM chips because they deserve it. About storage: I would suggest to buy the smallest internal ssd & use it only for OS & apps & buy a thunderbolt flash drive for production, same to gaming buy a thunderbolt flash drive for gaming, & so on! 2.5" external storage is physically big & it will take a lot of space for many projects & uses & think using as an external storage is a tech going to die soon. Flash drives are the future, so small & available with big capacities! About ports: The charging port need to get back to benefit from the usb c thunderbolt ports. From now & on should be usb c thunderbolt & it should have been before. The usb c thunderbolt oort should be at least 4 ports, at least for the PC/laptops with 14" & above! This usb c thunderbolt is so amazing that when you plugin external monitor that supports usb c thunderbolt you can plug to that monitor the mouse, K/B & the headset!!

was soll man dazu sagen. warum macht apple so ein dämlichen quatsch mit dem kühler. das einzige was mir dazu einfällt ist das der rechner schneller kaputt gehn soll. warum sonst setze ich nen kühler ein der die cpu NICHT berührt. ein anderer grund fällt mir nicht ein. und ich würde auch nie zu apple gehn wenn ihre ipad pros nicht so verdammt gut wären. wirklich man kann gegen apple sagen was man will aber die haben es einfach drauf. schaut euch doch mal die " normalen " tablets von samsung und co an, die könne einfach nix. ich brauchte ein tablet mit stift und hatte viele verschiedene geräte zum testen hier und das einzige was alles konnte und noch mehr war einfach das ipad pro (2017) das jetzt immernoch besser ist als das zeug von samsung und co.

I think how the cooling was SUPPOSED to work is the fan would draw air through the airgap between the laptop bottom and the CPU heatsink then onto the fan and out the back. But this design was obviously implemented poorly to say the least.

A different mod would be to use the the back of the lid (behind the screen) as a passive heatsink. You would need a flexible heat connection at the hinge, BUT you don't need to worry about the bottom scorching your lap.

I think Apple has actually a reason for this. You see when apple announced their arm chips they said it runs 50% faster right? Well if you have a thermal throttling Intel macbook and compare it to a nicely cooked arm chip macbook then they are right.
