4 years ago I had an issue with an Alienware product, it took several calls to Dell and a lot of uninformed people to eventually get a call from Alienware. Alienware took care of the issue in 1 call and the next day I had a new part working. I'd not be shocked if Alienware is just pretty much a name at this point, sadly....

That Dell rep should be fired. I work in sales and can guarantee she gets paid on commission and offering warranty, anti virus, and financing fills her bucket (sales dollars that goes towards a set quota) and she intentionally added it after being told no. The whole point of giving the itemized quote was that the burden is now on the customer to read and catch it. The sales woman is betting on the customer missing it and giving final approval on all of the add ons.

As someone that very recently purchased an NZXT BLD pc, I am extremely happy with their customer service, it's kinda sad that they didn't pick up the phone for this secret shopper challenge. I purchased the computer at something like 5 a.m. EST because I saw that they had an EVGA 3090 ftw3 ultra and I immediately clicked purchase. I contacted them a few days later to change the case into an H710 and they happily obliged even though they don't change orders 24 hours after they've been placed. I inquired a few times about the PC while it was being built, while enjoying friendly customer service, but it was through their website and not over the phone. Everyone's mileage varies, but mine was an excellent experience with NZXT and will happily purchase another prebuilt from them if I ever need one.

NZXT is a smaller shop that probably gets very few phone orders (because they are more niche brand feared towards enthusiasts). It's not completely unreasonable to not have a phone line. Honestly that's probably better than having a phone line that sucks.

So I really wanna know guys, did Linus ever get his money back for the tacked on trash from dell? Because it's actually really annoying to hear that that happened, but I also believe strongly that since he has substantial amounts of proof that what they did is wrong and not what he wanted and explicitely said he did not want it, he deserves a refund and credit as well. I told Origin PC I had a 10-12 THOUSAND dollar budget and they were so disgustingly unhelpful. SO, I'm building my own for 15,000; since I went threadripper and 3090 and 256GB of Ram with fancy 4tb NVME PCIE 4 and 2 8TB PCIE 3 NVME drives on my Asus Zenith Extreme II Alpha with thermaltake 80+ Titanium 1500W power supply. Only got scalped on the Power Supply and the Graphics card (the latter I knew going in, the PSU I had one that was on order and the company I was ordering from said they sold out a couple days before without updating the information on their site, so Thermaltake was there ready for me, and was only $100 over MSRP).

Heh, if only Origin was this nice to me when there was a mix-up and they sent me someone else's PC. Because if they were, then maybe they would've gotten it back. Instead they accused me of stealing it and demanded that I delete all of my data, clean install windows and send it back immediately with no compensation. Even though it was their mistake.

Back years ago I bought a Packard Bell Platinum 3000 Computer that came standard with Windows 95 and two USB ports on the motherboard (in the rear) of the case! With it I bought a brand new USB printer that was also a Packard Bell unit that was supposedly compatible with the computer as it was a "package promotion" from Packard Bell themselves at the time when I purchased it! I did EVERYTHING the instructions said to do setting the computer up at home!! BUT when I attached the printer it didn't work and wouldn't connect, no matter how many times I tried to install it, it claimed that the printer "was offline" and that I needed to "attach it to the USB port" in order to "connect it" to the computer....which it was already attached to the USB ports!! I called tech support to ask them what I might be doing wrong and their answer was "Your computer doesn't have any USB port of it, so you have to get a different computer that has USB ports installed on it!! Even though I could literally SEE THE USB PORTS CLEARLY ON THE BACK OF THE COMPUTER!! Come to find out in Device Manager is where I ended up finding the problem myself.....as one of the other motherboards IRQ threw the USB ports out of whack causing it to disable the address for it! Once I changed the address of the USB port I never had a problem with it, but apparently tech support was too stupid to figure this out themselves!! And it was still strange because the package I bought was a Packard Bell "compatible" package so it should have all worked automatically regardless anyhow but didn't!!

Tech Support Rep in training for a different industry here. We are trained to repeat the customer issue early on to make sure we don't miss anything. Its annoying if you are someone who can articulate your issue well, but it is often necessary with people who don't know enough to identify their problem well and call centers have lots of distractions so there is always a possibility of the rep missing something.

I worked for only 6 months in sales / customer support, and not even in tech but in tourism, but I can do better than this: You ask what they want You ask them about budget If their budget is realistic it's a win. If they ask for more than what their budget would allow, you offer them different options, some that fit their budget but not their needs in terms of performance, and some that cost more but will do what they ask for and explain those differences on the phone. And once you have the deal you can try selling your extra shit. WHY IS THIS SO HARD?
